Association of TESOL Distance Course Providers

The ACTDEC Association (of TESOL Distance Course Providers) has been established to attain objectives of interest to members of this profession. The following is a list of possible objectives for consideration. Council will be glad to hear from anyone with comment or suggestions.

  • To improve the Practice of TESOL distance learning and training.
  • To strengthen accredited TESOL distance providers' sense of identity as members of a highly respected professional group.
  • To foster the exchange of ideas, resources, information and experiences amongst distance providers.
  • To promote the concept that distance training is not necessarily a second choice for those seeking a course of training but a real way ahead, with distinct advantages and a viable alternative to face-to-face teaching.
  • To further the development of the teaching practice portfolio scheme for holders of ACTDEC certificates.
  • To promote high standards of in-service training within the portfolio scheme.
  • To foster and promote scholarship and research related to the development of distance material.
  • To provide, through the association, a financially advantageous and reliable method for getting essential and indicative reading lists and material to their trainees.
  • To offer a regular forum for the introduction and exchange of new ideas and practices and for the production of distance material.
  • To foster and protect ACTDEC accredited members' professional interests within the education system of the country.
  • To represent ACTDEC accredited members in dealing with Government and other official bodies or associations e.g. the British Council, the DfES, the new ILA scheme etc.
